The time taken cutting gels with a knife or scissors can really eat up the time the lighting crew has onstage. The fastest way I have come across to get the gels in the hands of the electricians is a paper cutter, and is the most often used in theaters.

My first experiences were through a combination of college and summerstock.  I had experience at the high school level as well, but I’m not counting that.  Why?  I don’t think that helped me actually land my first job past the inspiration it gave me to pursue further education.  Perhaps I’m selling my high school experience short.

Gaining experience is something that happens differently for technicians than for actors.  Actors often pay to participate in internships and showcases.  Technicians with college experience really should be able to gain more experience while getting at least a stipend.  No matter which way you cut it, beginning experiences will likely involve a whole lot of work.

Urban Cowboy National Tour Review

A friend of mine from high school, Alison Bacewicz, is living the acting dream.  A couple days ago she contacted me and mentioned she would be in town on a national tour of the Broadway musical Urban Cowboy.  She had a couple of comps available, so Bernie and I went.
