This month I’m highlighting Julian Beevers, sidewalk chalk artist. I’ve been running across work by Julian Beevers for some time now. He’s an amazing sidewalk chalk artist and his work often leaves me drooling. Recently I ran across this page containing some of his more recent work. When I was done drooling there, I thought maybe I’d look him up on YouTube. I was excited to find a bunch of videos showing him actually working. I learned a few tricks watching him work, so I thought I’d share. In this video, which shows the time lapse version of his Aveeno sponsored piece, I found his work on the bricks and his quick technique with the chalk on the string for the water ripples interesting. This video is the time lapse of his Mountain Dew/ Transformers piece. Next time I am discouraged because I spent a couple days working on something that will only be up for a couple weeks and then die, I’ll try to remember that this guy works with chalk and this piece took him 4 days. This video is a collection of a lot of his work. It shows some of the work from the proper angle right next to it from a non-proper angle and it’s fantastic to see how important perspective is to his work. So, I know this isn’t exactly theater, but I would classify it as performance art. I find this kind of work inspirational and hope you did too.
